We’ve all been celebrating our "Glow Ups" on social media recently and upping our highlighter game has been a big part of that for a lot of us. Highlighters can really add dimension to your face and enhance our favourite features, whether that be your cheeks, eyes or lips. When it comes to how to apply it, it really depends on your personal preference and what end result you’d like from your makeup.

Where should I put highlighter on the face?

On the face, highlighter can be blended across the tops of the cheeks, after blusher/bronzer to make the cheeks appear more lifted and defined. Depending on the shape of your face you could apply your highlighter in a small area near the top of the cheeks to make them appear more round, or in a slight curve from the tops of your cheeks towards your hairline, which works great for more square and long faces.

Highlighter can also be placed down the centre of the nose, or on just the dip to slim it down and add some light to centre of your face. You can also use it on the inner corners of your eyes to brighten and finish off any eye makeup!

Top tip: avoid any areas of texture such as spots as this may bring attention to these areas.

Should I put highlighter on the body?

Of course, you don’t have to stop there! Highlighter isn’t just for the face, it can be also used on the body. Some of the best places to apply highlighter on the body are applied on the tops of your shoulders and across your collarbones to accentuate your décolletage. This is such an eye catching look in the evening for that full glam.

What formula of highlighter should I use?

When it comes to the formula, highlighters come in them all! We’re talking powders, liquids and creams. The finish can also glowy, shimmery and full on sparkly finishes to suit everyone’s style.  Let us know below which is your favourite!

I personally love to opt for a beautiful, lit-from-within, glow.  The new Second Skin Highlighters are the perfect choice if, like me, you love a soft-focus glowy look to your skin.  They’re so finely milled that that blend seamlessly into the rest of your makeup or on top of bare skin. Not only are they packaged in the most gorgeous rose gold compact, but they’re also vegan and cruelty free!
